How it works

Enter torque in pound-feet and the RPM where that torque was measured. Horsepower is torque times RPM divided by 5252.

Horsepower = torque (lb-ft) × RPM ÷ 5252. Kilowatts = horsepower × 0.7457.

Why divide by 5252?

5252 is the constant that relates horsepower to pound-feet of torque at a given RPM in US customary units.

Is this wheel horsepower or crank horsepower?

The formula does not know where torque was measured. If you enter crank torque you get crank horsepower; wheel torque gives a wheel estimate.

Can I use Newton-metres?

Convert N·m to lb-ft first (divide by 1.3558), then enter that torque here.
